Tonight’s guest mix comes from Crystal Ahmed (also known through his drum & bass project, Liquid Ahmed), a Finland-based psytrance DJ whose musical journey bridges North Africa, West Asia, and the global psychedelic community.
Growing up surrounded by the sounds of the oud, rebab, darbuka, qanun, and other traditional instruments, he developed an early connection to rhythm and storytelling through music. After discovering psytrance in 2020, he was drawn to the genre’s unique ability to weave together sounds, traditions, and cultures from across the world.
This mix for Psy Night Radio reflects that connection. Expect hypnotic tribal grooves, and immersive soundscapes. Listeners familiar with Papa Psy’s collaborations with FC Goa may notice a shared appreciation for the powerful presence of the darbuka, an influence that has played a significant role in shaping Crystal Ahmed’s musical identity.
Beyond the decks, Ahmed is an active contributor to Finland’s alternative culture scene. He is co-founder of Marsupotamia, has contributed to the music program of Helsinki Decompression, volunteers at Kosmos Festival where he co-leads the signage team, and is also involved in producing Alppimuisto, a free psytrance open-air.
Through both DJing and future music production, Crystal Ahmed aims to bring more North African-inspired storytelling into the psychedelic world.

Crystal Ahmed is a Finland-based psytrance DJ whose sound explores the meeting point between psychedelic dance music and the cultural landscapes of North Africa, West Asia, and traditional music cultures from around the world.
His journey began in 2020 when he discovered psytrance and was captivated by its ability to unite powerful rhythms, tribal elements, and diverse cultural influences on a shared dancefloor. Drawn to tribal and groove-driven psychedelic sounds, he developed a style centered around hypnotic percussion, organic textures, and musical storytelling.
Alongside his DJ journey, Ahmed has become an active contributor to Finland’s alternative event community. He is co-founder of Marsupotamia, has contributed to the music programming of Helsinki Decompression, volunteers at Kosmos Festival where he co-leads the signage team, and is part of the production team behind Alppimuisto, a free psytrance open-air event.
In parallel with his psytrance project, Ahmed is also known as Liquid Ahmed, a drum & bass project launched in 2022. While that alias explores heavier bass-driven territory, Crystal Ahmed remains focused on deepening his presence within the psychedelic scene and developing an artistic voice inspired by his North African roots.
Through every set, Crystal Ahmed aims to create a journey that is energetic, danceable, culturally rich, and deeply connected to the spirit of the global psychedelic community.
